The thunder rumbled in the overcast night sky.
The rain fell like an eternal reminder that my heart wasn't quite whole.
And yet, I still sat there in the sand. Unmoved. Unmoving.
My bleached jean shorts were soaked, as was my baggy long-sleeved sweater.
It was navy. A comforting color to me.
I stared as the merciless ocean thrashed about and the wind whipped my hair into my face.
My emerald eyes did not waver as my would be hero sat next to me.
He did not give words to me, they weren't necessary.
We both knew what was going on. I was drifting. From him.
I had other things to do, as did he. We had lives. Separate lives.
But he did not know whom gave me life. Not yet.
My beloved Shadow. No, Sonic would not like this. Or maybe he would.
I just couldn't tell anymore.

He combed his fingers in the drenched sand. I guessed he was looking for seashells.
I was right.
He found one and sat it on my knee. The one I clung tightly to my chest.
We had agreed to meet today, no matter what happened. No matter what came up.
To make time to see each other after so long. I was glad it was raining, to be honest.
It seemed fitting.

I turned my head slowly to him, took my time. My eyes never left the chaos in front of me.
Until he spoke.
"Ames, you don't seem the same today. Is something on your mind?", he asked sweetly.

I looked at him hard, trying to see something I only saw in one person.
After failing to find what I was looking for, I relaxed and turned my gaze to the waves.
I sighed. There had been no spark between our eyes.
I was glad.

"No, Sonic. Just confirming what I already knew to be true."
I smiled sweetly. Got up.
Dusted myself off. Headed back to my home. Where I knew he would be waiting for me.
It was movie night, he was never late.
He probably brought her strawberries.
She couldn't wait to see him.
That's what made them so right. She felt it.

The crash of waves became far away as I approached home.
He turned from my rose bush at the sound of my approach.
I eyed the box of strawberries in his hand. He chuckled.
A sound I lived to hear.
He kissed my forehead and opened the door for me.
I could not ask for someone better. Because no such person exists.
Wrote this one the other day & went with the flow. My stories are short, but i wouldn't change them. I've written long stories before & got lost with them.
Tell me what you thought or if you have any ideas :)
Please be nice.

I don't own the Sonic gang, they are property of Sega
